Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Murdering Charlotte Man During Attempted Robbery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ€“ Tavonte House was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of the April 6th shooting death of 31-year-old Derrick Chambers.

The trial, which began on September 9, 2024, ended September 19th with the juryโ€™s verdict. The Honorable W. Robert Bell, Superior Court Judge, presided over the trial.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorneyโ€™s Homicide Team tried House, 32, for first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The jury found him guilty as charged. On Thursday morning, Judge Bell sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder charge and 19โ€“32 months in prison for the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge.

That sentence will run concurrently with the life sentence.

Two co-defendants, Diyondre Wilson and Keniya Guyton, were previously convicted in connection with the crimes. Charges against a third co-defendant, Malik Benson, remain pending.
