Suspect’s Arrest Brings Some Closure to Chris Allen’s Family

CHARLOTTE, NC — Some closure and justice tonight for the family of Chris Allen, the East Mecklenburg High School senior who was killed Sunday night.

CMPD has arrested Carlos Olguin for Allen’s murder, but there are still several questions surrounding what led to the senior’s shooting.

“Just put this guy behind bars would mean the most to everything, like the whole family.”

Those words this week from Dakota Allen, the brother of 18-year old Chris Allen, who was shot and killed during a house party Sunday night.

Detectives have charged 22-year old Carlos Olguin with the murder.

I went to Chris Allen’s home Thursday afternoon. His mother asked that the media respect the family’s privacy, but did say they were happy a suspect had been caught.

Friends and family have been remembering the East Meck football player all week.

“It’s not going to make anything better,” said an Allen family friend who did not want to be identified. “It’s not going to change the situation. But it will give closure to the family at least.”

“It kind of just makes me glad that his family gets to have some form of justice, after all the tragedy that’s happened,” said East Mecklenburg High student Trey Gadson

CMPD detectives have confirmed that Allen and Olguin were involved in an argument, that led to the deadly shooting, at a party on Kelford Place just before 11:00 Sunday night.

We still don’t know what caused that argument; an argument that some witnesses say led to a fight.

Information and evidence led investigators to Olguin. He was located and arrested early Thursday morning, charged with first-degree murder. He was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and will face a judge Friday afternoon.

CMPD says the investigation is still active.

There will be a balloon release in Chris Allen’s honor at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon across from the high school. And a memorial service at East Baptist Church on Monroe Road at 4:00.
