Virginia Fugitive With Outstanding Warrants In NC Arrested After Leading Deputies On Chase

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A man with outstanding warrants in Rowan County and a Fugitive Warrant from Virginia is in custody after leading officials on a pursuit Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies tried to stop Stacey Key, 48, of Fries, VA, for traffic violations around 3:15pm while driving north on I-77, according to reports, but Key sped away in his Dodge Caravan. He then led deputies on a brief chase that ended at the Yadkin County line.

While being placed under arrest, officials say Key admitted to consuming an unknown amount of methamphetamine he had in his possession before being stopped.

After being medically cleared, deputies say Key was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and charged with Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest, Felony Careless and Wreckless Driving, Driving while License Revoked for DUI, Destruction of Criminal Evidence, Felony Arrest Warrant from Rowan County, and is also being held on a Fugitive Warrant from Virginia for drug charges. Officials say Key also had outstanding warrants from Rowan County.

Key has been placed under a $50,000 secured bond.
