Driver Charged In Fatal I-485 Ramp Crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police have charged the driver in connection to the fatal I-485 ramp crash in August that left a civilian dead and two officers injured.

Robert Reiser, 80, was charged Thursday with death by vehicle and assault inflicting serious injury, both misdemeanors.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on August 22nd at the I-485 outer ramp loop to Mt. Holly Road in northwest Charlotte.

Police responded to the area to investigate a stolen vehicle parked on the shoulder of the ramp.

Reiser was operating a motorhome when he struck two police cars and the civilian’s vehicle that reported the stolen vehicle.

The civilian, 29-year-old Brian Battle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two police officers were transported to a nearby hospital and sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
