Charlotte Man Struck By Train Dies In Hospital Days After Accident

CHARLOTTE, NC – A Charlotte man who was  hospitalized after being struck by a CSX train has died.

On Wednesday, October 9th around 1:22 p.m. officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by  a CSX train near Rozzelles Ferr Road. Upon arrival Police located an unresponsive male who appeared to be struck by a train.

Officers also located a CSX train nearby.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene.  MEDIC transported the pedestrian, identified as 79-year-old Curtis Hayes, to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries. Curtis succumbed to his injuries three days after.

Preliminary investigation indicates Hayes was walking westbound on Honeywood Avenue towards Rozzelles Ferry Road when he was struck by a train.
