Teen Dead In Single Vehicle Crash On John Belk Freeway

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a teen is dead following a single-vehicle crash that happened early Wednesday morning on John Belk Freeway.

Investigators say the driver of a 2005 Toyota Avalon, 16-year-old William Blottman, was driving at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a concrete pillar that supports the E. 7th Street bridge.

Blottman was the only occupant of the vehicle.  Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.  Investigators believe speed is the contributing factor in the wreck.  It is unknown at this time if the crash was alcohol related, according to a news release.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call police.
