Buncombe County Schools To Reopen Friday

BUNCOMBE COUNTY,  NC — A major step toward recovery in the mountains.

Buncombe County schools will reopen on Friday… nearly a month after Helene devastated the county.

The district says four students died.

Nearly 2 dozen students were missing a week after the storm, but school officials say they are all accounted for now.

Parents said they’ve been doing their best to help their children cope with what they’ve been through.

“We’ve luckily been able to kind of shield them from some of the more damaging aspects of the hurricane, luckily. They missed their friends, they missed the structure, they missed their teachers, they missed the routine,” Adam Hallock said.

All 5 buncombe county schools have power,  internet and water.

The district had to make changes to bus routes because of storm damage which included adding community stops.
