ALBEMARLE, NC – Albemarle police arrested two underage boys after a chase involving a stolen car. Officers are still searching for a third suspect.
The department says an police officer’s patrol car was nearly hit by a car that ran a stop sign at Arey Avenue and East Main Street around 2:30 am on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Investigators say the car had been stolen moments before.
Officers chased the car for a short distance until it slowed down and the suspects jumped out.
One of the young men was arrested at the scene on South Morrow Street. The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office helped with a Police K-9 search and officers were able to arrest the second young man. Police say both suspects resisted arrest and had guns.
The two young men face several felony charges. Investigators believe they may be responsible for at least three other recent car thefts in Albemarle.
Their identities are not being released due to North Carolina law.
