Black Friday frenzy brings thousands to Charlotte area shops

CHARLOTTE, NC — This year, holiday spending is expected to hit a record of nearly $1 trillion.

The thrill of the sale. That’s what brings millions of shoppers out each Black Friday. In the morning hours at the Charlotte Premium Outlets, the lines started early and grew.

“Trying to get deals, man,” said Matthews resident Hamza.

The National Retail Federation said a record 183 million people are planning to shop in-store and online between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.

“I’m looking forward to good deals and more clothes,” said Myah Gribbins.

Despite the convenience and ease of online shopping, about 2/3 of Black Friday shoppers shopped in-person.

The NRF reports that surveyed shoppers will spend about 3% more than last year.
