A persistent cold pattern dominates the southeast this week due to a strong Arctic high pressure system and multiple reinforcing cold fronts. This setup will bring unseasonably cold air, mountain snow and even a chance for a few flurries across the Piedmont tonight. Temperatures today will remain cold with highs struggling to break out of the mid to upper 40s. A weak shortwave will bring snow across the mountains with up to 3-5″ possible above 3500′. A few flurries may fly tonight across the Piedmont and Charlotte metro area tonight, but because ground temperatures are so warm, no accumulation is expected. Overnight temperatures will fall into the teens and 20s tonight with highs struggling to reach the low 40s Tuesday afternoon. This will be the coldest day of the week with temperatures remaining freezing Tuesday night into Wednesday morning before moderating into the low 50s Wednesday afternoon. Another cold front will bring the chance for more mountain snow Wednesday night into Thursday with colder temperatures to follow to close out the week. Lows will tumble back into the low 20s Friday morning with highs in the low to mid 40s Friday afternoon.
