Holiday drinking trends & spending revealed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte residents are expected to be spending much less on alcohol this holiday season, with only 7% planning to splurge over $200 on alcohol, and it’s millennials who are leading the charge.

That’s according to the latest holiday drinking study by Insurance Canopy. They surveyed 1,000 Americans across different generations, genders, and income levels to reveal America’s holiday drinking habits, preferences, and risks.

Some key takeaways:

  • Men are 40% more likely than women to spend over $200 on holiday alcohol.
  • Spirits are the top choice for 38% of Americans, followed by wine (27%) and beer (22%).
  • 65% of Gen Z plan to drink more during the holidays.
  • Nearly 1 in 4 millennials have gotten into a fight due to holiday drinking.
  • Households earning over $100k are 3x more likely to spend over $200 on alcohol.
