New CMS Superintendent Says No Need To Delay Student Assignment Plan

CHARLOTTE, NC — The incoming superintendent of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools spoke only to WCCB, and says there is no need to delay the student assignment plan.

NC Rep. Scott Stone is calling on CMS to postpone finalizing the controversial plan until Superintendent Clayton Wilcox can give his input. Wilcox says Stone is wrong in his assumption.

Wilcox says he has already been taking part in meetings and working behind-the-scenes with Superintendent Clark on ways to make the plan better.

However, some residents are also expressing concern over the looming vote.

Superintendent Ann Clark’s phase two plan has received resistance from parents in several neighborhoods. Dilworth residents are asking for a delay on the vote to finalize the plan because they say they have yet to hear any feedback from their proposals to the Board of Education.

They feel that the current plan would be bad for students.
