STATESVILLE, NC — A Statesville man is facing over 20 charges connected to multiple vehicle break-ins and thefts.
Eric Mayse, of Charlotte, was arrested Thursday afternoon after deputies spotted him in a vehicle that was reported stolen earlier that morning.
According to reports, deputies were called to a vehicle break-in around 1:35am at a home on Shiloh Road. The homeowner told deputies that the suspect was inside one of their vehicles, and took off running down Shiloh Road towards Seven Oaks Lane.
Around 5:40am, several residents on Seven Oaks Lane began calling to report multiple vehicle break-ins that happened overnight. In both incidents, deputies where unable to locate the suspect.
Deputies say a blue 2006 Nissan Pathfinder was then reported stolen around 7:15am from a home on St. Paul Lane. According to reports, deputies found a bicycle in the yard where the vehicle was stolen. Officials say the suspect rode the bike to the home, and then took off in the vehicle.
Mayse was finally spotted around noon on Garner Bagnal Boulevard, according to deputies, driving the stolen vehicle with a white female passenger. When deputies tried to approach him, they say he took off on foot and left the woman in the vehicle.
Mayse was eventually arrested and charged with 17 counts of Breaking and Entering to a Motor Vehicle, one count of Breaking and Entering to a Building, five counts of Larceny, and one count of Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. Mayse was given a $25,000 secured bond.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing and there will likely be more charges coming.
