Critics Blast New Extraordinary Events Proposal
CHARLOTTE, NC — Residents and critics demanded City Council members reject the new extraordinary events proposal at a meeting Monday night.
The proposal would repeal the ordinance, but would then add to the existing picketing ordinance. That would give police the power to search people when demonstrations grown to 50 or more people.
Critics argue that it still leaves people vulnerable to racial profiling and would not improve safety.
City Council and CMPD will hold a community forum for people who want more information about the plan at 6pm on June 6 at the Belmont Center.
Council will vote on the repeal plan June 26.
