DALLAS, N.C. (News Release) — As more individuals seek to live a self-reliant lifestyle, the NC Cooperative Extension is here to provide valuable resources to help make that a reality. Whether you’re a homesteader, a beginner farmer, an established farmer looking to diversify, or simply an agriculture enthusiast, this workshop has something for everyone.
The Homesteading: Backyard Basics Workshop will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature six new workshops, including:
ο· Edible Landscaping
ο· Getting Started with Dairy Goats
ο· Homesteading 101
ο· Medicinal Herbs for Tea
ο· Native Perennial Crops
ο· Soap Making
ο· Sourdough Starter 101: Cultivating Your Own Yeast
Participants will also receive valuable educational resources and materials from all nine workshop sessions.
In the event of inclement weather, a make-up date has been set for February 1, 2025.
Held at the Citizens Resource Center (1303 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy., in Dallas), the workshop will allow participants to register in advance for two morning sessions and one afternoon session.
Instructors include experts from the NC Cooperative Extension with experience in agriculture, horticulture, and food preservation.
βSkills related to gardening, meat production, and food preservation are essential to achieving a sustainable food supply,β said Lara Worden, program coordinator and instructor. βThis workshop brings together a diverse group of Extension experts to help participants expand their homesteading knowledge and practices.β
