NWS Confirms Tornado Caused Damage In Iredell County

IREDELL COUNTY, NC – The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in eastern Iredell County Wednesday afternoon.  The survey is continuing and more information about the tornado will be released shortly.

According to the American Red Cross, two homes are reported destroyed and up to 30 more damaged, with 10 people displaced.

Most of the damage is in the Cool Springs area, near Swann Road and Highway 64.

Mike Lamourex tells WCCB Charlotte he only had seconds to react.

He got a tornado warning alert on his phone and says moments later the storm was bearing down on him.

“I didn’t know where to go. I mean it’s a trailer, where do you go?” he asked.

Lamourex ducked in a storage room at his home on Five Creek Road while trees in his front yard snapped.

One barely missed his home.

Further down the road, there were remnants of a mobile home. Thankfully, neighbors say no one was living there at the time.

Pictures posted on the Iredell Firewire Facebook page show what appears to be a funnel cloud in the area.
