Many Still Not Happy After Wednesday’s Student Assignment Vote
CHARLOTTE, NC –Many parents are still feeling angry and let down after Wednesday’s vote on phase 2 of CMS’ controversial student assignment plan.
A six-and-a-half hour meeting filled with passionate public pleas and strong words between board members eventually led to some controversial changes for the student assignment boundaries. The CMS board voted to approve all 14 motions of the new plan, despite many of the votes being split along racial lines.
Some still argue that low-income neighborhoods are not getting equal treatment under this plan.
The new student assignment changes will take affect for the 2018-2019 school year.
