A chilly pattern dominates through the weekend, starting with colder air settling in today. Brisk northwest winds as high pressure builds in today will keep temps noticeably cooler with high in the mid to upper 40s under sunny skies.
Arctic Front Friday, Brings Mountain Snow
An Arctic cold front arrives Friday bringing snow for the mountains with up to 1-2″ possible for the highest elevations along with gusty winds and a sharp drop in temperature areawide. Friday’s highs will briefly reach the low 50s for the Piedmont, before colder air rushes in Friday evening.
Frigid Weekend Ahead
Wind chills will dip below zero Saturday morning in the high country while making it feel like the teens and 20s across the rest of the region. Saturday and Sunday will remain cold with highs struggling to break out of the 30s and 40s.
Rain and Wintry Mix Sunday – Early Monday
Late Sunday a low pressure system moves in bringing widespread rain overnight into Monday morning with the potential for a wintry mix in the mountains and as far south as the I-40 corridor. This could make travel dangerous for the Monday morning commute.
Even Colder Next Week
Snow showers may linger through Tuesday for the mountains with colder air settling in for the rest of the region with highs in the low 40s and lows dipping into the low 20s.
