CHARLOTTE, NC– The snow storm sweeping the East Coast has left travelers stranded in Charlotte. More than 80 flights in and out of Charlotte-Douglas were canceled Tuesday; the list of delays, even longer.
According to Flightaware.com, the Houston, Chicago, and Atlanta airports have been the hardest hit with delays and cancellations. Canceled flights from Atlanta added to the travel mess for frequent flier Brian Sucher.
“The issue is incoming flights are not coming in,” says Sucher. He spent over eight hours in the airport awaiting a flight back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Another stranded passenger: Vermont resident John Sullivan. “I was supposed to fly tonight at 6pm, but that flight got delayed, and my 8:20 flight got canceled,” says Sullivan.
The result: he’s spending an extra night in Charlotte. Sullivan says he was lucky to find someplace to stay since all of the hotels are booked up.
An additional 33 outbound flights were canceled Tuesday night at Charlotte-Douglas airport. For passengers traveling Wednesday, make sure to check with the airline before heading to the airport.
