Man Dies After Being Injured In West Charlotte Shooting Last Week, Suspect Arrested

UPDATE:  Police have charged Lex Chisolm, 24, with the armed robbery and murder of Cornelius Drayton.

UPDATE: The CMPD says on June 15th, 2017,  Cornelius Drayton, 37, died at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, as a result of injuries sustained in a June 9th shooting.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives are investigating a shooting that started in west Charlotte and ended in Belmont, Friday night.

Detectives say CMPD officers responded to reports of shots fired and a wrecked car on the I-85 service road near Little Rock Road.

According to investigators, multiple people met at the Exxon Station located at 3215 Queen City Drive, to conduct a drug transaction Friday night.

During the transaction, inside a Honda Accord, an altercation occurred and gunshots were fired.

The Honda Accord was then chased by a second vehicle, and more shots were fired between the vehicles.

The driver of the Honda Accord continued to the Kangaroo Express located at 6441 Wilkinson Boulevard in Belmont.

Blemont Police Department Officers and Gaston County EMS  responded to the scene and discovered the three occupants of the Hond Accord, two of which had been shot.

Both shooting subjects were air-lifted to Carolinas Medical Center-Main, with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Accord was not injured and was taken to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and interviewed by Homicide Detectives.

The reported wrecked car was not located.
