Plans For Major League Soccer In Charlotte Are On Hold

CHARLOTTE, NC — Plans to bring Major League Soccer to the Queen City are on hold while Mecklenburg County leaders wait to see if the City of Charlotte will help with funding.

During a straw vote on the county’s $1.7 billion budget, commissioners delayed a decision to spend millions of dollars on a soccer stadium in the Elizabeth neighborhood.

In January, the city decided not to spend $44 million on a new stadium. Commissioners say they’ll re-visit the plan in August. The final vote to approve the county budget will happen on June 20th.
