Suspect Faces More Than 20 Charges After Drug Bust

SALISBURY, NC — Police arrested a man on multiple drug and weapons charges after executing a knock and announce search warrant Wednesday.

Police served the warrants at Demarco Oglesby’s home on Clay Street as part of an ongoing drug investigation. Officials say Oglesby was found in his upstairs bedroom with a large butcher knife, but surrendered to police without incident.

The operation forced a very brief lockdown at the nearby Wiley Lash Head Start on South Martin Luther King. Officials say officers were using body cameras throughout the entire operation.

Detectives found just over 41 grams of cocaine, nearly 163 grams of marijuana, over $230 in cash, three electronic scales, and two fully loaded handguns, according to reports. One of the handguns had been stolen during a Statesville breaking and entering earlier this year, officials say.

Oglesby is

charged with Maintaining a Dwelling for the Purposes of Selling Narcotics, Trafficking Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Sell of Narcotics within 1000 feet of a Daycare Facility, Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Firearm by Felon, and Possession of Stolen Firearm. Salisbury Police says he also has two failure to appear warrants for Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine and Resist, Delay, and Obstruct from December 2016.

Police say Oglesby is also wanted in Montgomery County, PA for probation/parole violation related to a 2013 Statutory Sexual Assault charge.

Oglesby’s bond has been set at $470,000.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
