Huntersville Police hosting a Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics
HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A plunge for a purpose is happening this month coinciding with all the freezing weather we’ve been having. The Huntersville Police Department is partnering with the Special Olympics against this year
In order to help raise funds for the organization and participating athletes the department is hosting a polar plunge.
The event is scheduled for later this month on January 26 at the Lake House Wine Bar and Grill on Harborside Drive in Cornelius.
Retired Lt. Andrew Dempski said, “it’s really rewarding. It really touches your heart because these athletes with intellectual disabilities really don’t get the same opportunities as is other people. And so to go out there and give them opportunities where they can win and they can strive to do their best is just it makes your heart feel really good.”
He added that jumping in frigid water is a great way to raise money and awareness, “the Polar Plunge is a great event to raise awareness and monies, but it’s it’s a cold event. It’s really refreshing though. As soon as you jump in the water and come back out of the water and the coldness hits you, it’s really refreshing and rewarding.”
