UPDATE: Β The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Joe Lee Stinson.
Authorities say Mr. Stinson was killed when stepped off the curb into the path of a 2008 Jeep Patriot. Β He was not in a marked crosswalk.
The driver of the Jeep attempted to render aid to Mr. Stinson, and neither speed nor alcohol use were determined to be contributing factors of the accident.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating after a person was hit and killed on Old Steele Creek Road in southwest Charlotte.
Police say the accident happened shortly after 10pm near Elmin Street. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
CMPD has closed off that area of road, and have not yet said when it will reopen.
