CHARLOTTE, NC — A 51-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being found guilty in a 2013 murder case.
Phillip Scott was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury found him guilty of murdering 19-year-old Danny Marrino in June 2013.
According to reports, Scott confronted Barrino in the apartment complex where they both lived and assaulted him during an argument. Barrino tried to run when he saw a gun fall from Scott’s waistband, but officials say Scott chased him and shot him in the back. Barrino was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Scott took off and tossed the gun in the woods behind the apartments. He was arrested the next day at a local hotel.
