Snow makes for messy roads as dangerously cold temperatures settle in

- Extreme Cold Warning Extreme Cold Warning in effect for the mountains until noon Wednesday.
- Winter Weather Advisory in effect for part of the Piedmont until 9 AM Wednesday.
Forecast:
Tonight: Scattered snow showers mainly along and southeast of I-85. Accumulations increase the farther southeast you go. Wind chills may drop into the single digits across the Piedmont early Wednesday and below zero in the mountains.
Wednesday: Frigid, dangerously cold start to the day. There will be slick spots on the roads – especially SE of I-85. Sunny with highs near freezing.
Thursday: Another freezing start with morning lows in the teens. Mostly cloudy, but finally getting above freezing. Highs in the mid to upper 30s.
