CMPD Arrests Woman For Charlotte’s 48th Homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD has arrested a woman for shooting a man in the head and killing him over the weekend in east Charlotte.

Kristian Weddington has been charged with murder and shooting into an occupied property. Investigators say 24-year-old Tommy Maddox died in Charlotte’s 48th homicide of the year.

“I got to my stop around.. 11:45. I had to drop off like two packages, when I heard multiple gunshots,” explains postal worker Patrick Cooley.

Cooley thought it was fireworks he heard at first. Instead police responded to shots fired at the Kimmerly Woods Apartments.

“Actually come to find out they let off at least 10, 10 to 20 gunshots,” Cooley says.

According to investigators, a man was in an argument with a woman. That’s when a group approached them.

Maddox was shot in the head. They don’t know if he was targeted by the group.

“Poor child, shot in the head. For what reason?” asks neighbor Marshall Horton.

He says it’s senseless and a shame that so many young people are involved.

“When I was them guys ages, we didn’t go through no mess like that,” Horton says.

Police kept the entrance to the apartment complex blocked off all afternoon as they canvassed the area, searching with metal detectors and taping off a small wooded area.
