Manhunt Underway in Charlotte for Attempted Kidnappings Suspect

CHARLOTTE, NC – A manhunt is underway in Charlotte. Police are searching for a man targeting women who are out jogging in the Steele Creek area. CMPD says he tried to kidnap two women, at gunpoint, at different locations.

“It’s very scary! Very, very scary!” says Che Curtis.

Curtis was on the zipline at the U.S. National Whitewater Center when she noticed the search.

“We saw the police on the four wheelers going through the forest, I guess talking to different people trying to figure out what was going on,” Curtis says.

Police shut down the hiking trails for about an hour Tuesday after finding a burned out Mercedes in the area. They believe the attempted kidnapping suspect ditched it on Performance Drive and may have ran off. Police later found out the car was stolen.

It began just before 8:00 in the morning when a man drove up to a woman jogging along York Road. He pulled a gun and demanded she get in the car.
Instead, she ran away.

The same thing happened at the second location along Dixie River Road, but that time the victim was able to flag down another person who called 911.

Police say the suspect is an Hispanic man, around 20 to 30 years old, with straight black hair, wearing a black shirt.
