CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have charged the man they say sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint in southeast Charlotte.
Malcolm Mitchell, 25, has been charged with 1st degree Kidnapping, 1st degree Attempted Armed Robbery, three counts of 1st degree Sex Offense, and 1st degree Attempted Sex Offense.
According to police, Mitchell was arrested on June 27th for a traffic violation while driving a vehicle that matched the description of one used during an armed sexual assault on June 18th. Investigators later identified Mitchell as the suspect in the case and charged him on Wednesday.
Police say shortly before midnight on June 18th a woman leaving work was sexually assaulted while walking to a bus stop on Wallace Road at Monroe Road. The victim told officers that the suspect forced her behind a building at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted her. Police say he then let her go and she called 911.
Officer and K-9 units were unable to find the suspect that night.
