Extreme Ice skating community honors victims of DC plane crash
CHARLOTTE, NC — 14 members of the US figure skating community were among those killed in the midair collision between an American Airlines plane and helicopter.
Skaters in Charlotte gathered at Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail to mourn the loss of their companions on Monday.
The skating rink joined a national moment of silence.
A black ribbon was painted in the center of the ice with the American Airline flight number underneath and a pair of skates laid in between.
“It touched everybody, even if it wasn’t an immediate personal moment that you knew somebody. It’s the skating world, and we’re always there for each other,” Jenny Wesley Gwyn said.
Members of Extreme Ice said they are thinking about the victims and every life that they touched.
