Rise in visitors bringing weapons to the Mecklenburg Co. Courthouse
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is urging visitors and staff at the courthouse to comply with security rules. It comes following a recent rise in weapons confiscations. The Mecklenburg County Courthouse does not allow firearms and other weapons on the property. Right now, you could be given a citation for violating the rules. The sheriff’s office says it may consider arresting violators, which would be a class 1 misdemeanor.
Firearms, knives, and sharp objects are prohibited at the courthouse. Electronic devices like laptops, tablets and cell phones are allowed but may need to be turned on for inspection. And lastly, no photography, filming, or audio recording is allowed without prior written approval.
