MORGANTON, NC — Deputies have arrested a 48-year-old man after they say he piled trash inside a home and ignited it with shotgun fire early Monday morning.
Deputies say David Macinnes confessed to piling trash inside a neighboring home on Idlewild Drive off of Henderson Mill Road and shooting it with a shotgun until it ignited.
Fire crews responded to a mobile home and vehicle fire around 5am. Deputies were then called about 20 minutes later after reports of an armed man at the scene with shots fired. Deputies say they spoke with Macinnes, who was found sitting on his porch, for roughly 20 minutes before taking him into custody.
Investigators later collected multiple firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from the scene.
According to officials, a warrant for 2nd Degree Arson has been issued but not served on Macinnes. The vehicle and mobile home are a total loss.
The investigation is ongoing, and investigators say more charges are possible.
