Students representing Children’s Theatre of Charlotte walked away with a national theater award at the 2025 Junior Theater Festival West.
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte received the Excellence in Music Award. Members Owen Tesch and Erin Acker were named Junior Theater Festival All-Stars, a select group of outstanding performers.
Each group performed 15 minutes of a Broadway Junior musica, and the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte presented an excerpt from Seussical JR.
“This program encourages its students to discover what makes them unique and show it off! There were so many unexpected joyful moments throughout their presentation,” said Khalia Davis, Producing Artistic Director of The Coterie Theatre in Kansas City.
The festival was held from Feb. 7-9 at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento, California.
The 2025 JTF West consisted of 54 groups from 16 states, as well as Canada, New Zealand, South Korea and China, that participated in the festival.
“These performers were true triple threats! They worked wonderfully together, shining an incandescent light on the magical world of Seussical JR,” said Kelby McIntyre-Martinez, Associate Dean for Arts Education and Community Engagement at the University of Utah.
