Suspect Who Jumped On Train While Fleeing Police In West Charlotte Arrested
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested the man who ran from officers and jumped onto a moving train in west Charlotte last week.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Rozzelles Ferry and Beatties Ford Roads just before 3:30pm Wednesday. Investigators say William Mason and two passengers were spotted in a black Honda that was reported stolen Tuesday from an address on Sedgefield Road, according to police.
Mason reportedly drove at a high rate of speed through west Charlotte for approximately 30-45 minutes before being stopped at a railroad crossing near Berryhill Road. Police did not chase the vehicle but the police helicopter followed it until it got stopped by the train. Mason then took off from the vehicle, jumped onto the moving train, and then ran into a wooded area in the Westerly Hills neighborhood near Skyview Road.
The two passengers stayed in the car and were taken into custody.
