CMS: Enrollment In Magnet Programs Up 20%

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says early numbers show the plan to expand the number of seats in magnet schools is popular with parents.

Enrollment in CMS magnet programs is up by more than 20% for the 2017-18 school year. The district says nine new programs that were part of phase one of the student assignment plan drew strong interest.

CMS say optional questions are aimed at trying to increase diversity in schools. They also say existing magnet programs at several schools had waiting lists for the first time.
