IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A seven-year-old girl suffered extensive injuries as a result of sexual assault by her “father,” according to a news release.
On Saturday, July 22nd deputies with the Iredell Sheriff Office responded to a possible sexual assault on Olin Loop road. Once on the scene, they discovered a 7-year-old girl with obvious injuries consistent of sexual assault.
Detectives interviewed the girl’s mother, who has four children, two of which are with the suspect. WCCB is not identifying the suspect to protect the identity of the victim.
The mother also mentioned that she had left the home around 7 a.m. on July 21st and did not return until around 1 p.m. on July 22nd.
Once home, she discovered the victim sitting in a chair in the living room with blood on her and the suspect sleeping on the couch.
The victim informed her mother the suspect, who she referred to as her father, had sexually assaulted her.
Officers determined that the suspect was left at home to watch all four children, but another family member came by Saturday to pick up two of them. The crime is believed to have taken place later that night, while only the suspect and the two smaller children were at home.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched the home, collecting evidence, which included cloths in the wash which is believed to have been an attempt to dispose evidence.
The victim was transported to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital suffering from extensive injuries. It is believed that she will need surgery and is still in the care of medical personnel.
Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested and charged with Statutory Rape of a Child by an Adult and was given a $1,000,000 bond and pending court date in Statesville.
