Union County Man Facing More Drug Charges After Recent Arrest

UNION COUNTY, NC — A 49-year-old Waxhaw man faces more charges after detectives say drugs were found in his truck.

Officials say Herbert Long tried to run from detectives Monday afternoon when they tried to pull him over on US 74 near Indian Trail. Long was quickly stopped by traffic however, and deputies removed him from his truck.

A Union County Sheriff’s Office K9, Yago, searched Long’s truck and found several balloons containing several grams of suspected heroin and several pills believed to be Valium, according to a report.

Long is charged with Trafficking Heroin by Possession, Trafficking Heroin by Transportation, Maintaining a Vehicle for Use, Sale or Storage of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While License Revoked, Failure to Heed Emergency Vehicle, and Failure to Maintain Lane.

Officials say Long was arrested in March after detectives and NC Probation and Parole Officers seized drugs and firearms during a search of his home. Long was released on bond in May.
