Charlotte, N.C. — A Charlotte woman has been charged with practicing dentistry in her home without a license. State Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Susana Larreta Peralta, 62, late Thursday.
Special agent John Keene said that his team acted quickly on a tip from the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners. “We moved fast on this case because it is a public health issue,” Keene said in a news release.
Investigators said this could have gone on for years.
Dental tools and instruments as well as vials of dental anesthetic, Xylocaine, were found in a search of Peralta’s home.
Peralta was released from the Mecklenburg County Jail under a $5,000 bond after she was charged with practicing dentistry without a license, obtaining a prescription drug without a prescription and dispensing a prescription drug without a permit.
