Two-alarm fire at high-rise apartment building in Uptown
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Investigators said a massive fire at a high-rise apartment building in Uptown started in a trash compactor.
The flames broke out just after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the building on South Church Street near Laveen Avenue of the Arts. A second alarm was called around 2:15 p.m. to bring additional resources.
Smoke spread throughout the upper floors through a trash chute, triggering smoke alarms on several levels.
Crews put out the fire in less than an hour. Investigators said no one was hurt.
