Good news! NASA has significantly lowered the risk of asteroid 2024 YR4 impacting Earth in 2032.
The latest calculations show Asteroid 2024 YR4 poses next to no threat on impacting Earth. The impact probability was as high as 3.1%, but has now dropped to 0.004%. This decrease comes after calculating “more precise models of the asteroid’s trajectory”.
The last record holder was Asteroid Apophis in 2004, which briefly had a 2.7% chance of impact.
According to NASA, there is still a very small chance for the asteroid to impact the Moon on December 22, 2032. That probability is 1.7%.
