UPDATE: Charges dismissed against woman accused of locking boyfriend in a Monroe storage unit for days

UPDATE:

MONROE, NC – Charges have been dismissed against a woman who had been accused of locking her boyfriend in a Monroe storage unit for several days.

Robin Deaton was charged with first degree kidnapping and attempted first degree murder after Gary Oxendine told police she locked him inside a unit at Cooper Storage on Old Charlotte Highway for four days following an argument.

According to court documents, prosecutors dismissed the charges on March 6, 2025 because Oxendine changed his story a day after police rescued him from the storage unit.

The documents say Oxendine changed his story a second time several days later.

In an affidavit, Oxendine said “I now state that I have not been honest and that I have lied to law enforcement and in so doing have made it impossible for law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office to further pursue charges against Robin Deaton.”
