Discussion:
A weak cold front wil move through the region today. There isn’t a whole lot of moisture to tap into, so expect more scattered afternoon showers, and an isolated rumble of thunder east of I-77. Highs will top out in the 50s to mid 60s in the mountains and foothills, while temps will reach the to low to mid 70s further east across the Piedmont. Expect breezy southwest winds ahead of the cold front, with winds transitioning out of the northwest tonight, ushering in cooler and drier air for Friday. Isolated snow showers for the mountains overnight, ending early Friday with little to no accumulation. Temps will fall into the 30s to low 40s overnight, and although highs will be cooler in the mid 60s, it will still be above average and sunny.
Another cold front arrives Saturday, but this one will be completely moisture starved, meaning no rain — just gusty winds and one more warm day with highs back near 70, before a noticeable cool down Sunday. Temps will fall into the 20s and 30s Sunday morning and only warm to the mid 50s through the day. It will remain cool through Monday before warming back up into the mid to upper 60s by mid-week.
We’ll be keeping an eye on a system that could bring heavier rain and possible storms Tuesday into Wednesday.
