UPDATE: The CMPD says Taji Brown turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 to face additional charges of sexual abuse.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested a CMS teacher for sexually assaulting two boys.
Detectives say they were first notified on July 21st by a parent of a 10-year-old boy regarding inappropriate sexual behavior exhibited by the teacher working at Billingsville Elementary School.
During the investigation, police determined that Taji Brown was working as a 5th grade teacher at the school where several of his students were involved in a mentoring and summer program run by Brown called G.U.D.B.O.Y.S. (Gentleman Understanding Destiny By Overcoming Your Statistics).
The program was operated out of Brown’s home on Pebble Creek Way. Several of the students spent the night at Brown’s residence while enrolled in the program, according to a news release.
Detectives say Brown touched two boys inappropriately during this time. Police executed a search warrant at Brown’s home and police say additional evidence was obtained. Detectives then signed warrants for Brown’s arrest.
On August 8th, Brown was arrested and charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a student.
Police say the crimes occurred while Brown was employed as a teacher at Billingsville Elementary School but the alleged assaults did not happen on campus.
CMS says Brown has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Detectives are currently working to determine if there are additional victims. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 704-334-1600.
