HUDSON, N.C. – A moped driver was ejected and killed following a car crash in Caldwell County on Friday afternoon, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
It happened around 3:40 p.m. on Cajah Mountain Road near Stamey Road in Hudson, North Carolina.
Deputies said a Kia Spectra, heading east on Cajah Mountain Road, failed to reduce speed and collided with a moped that slowed to turn onto Stamey Road.
The moped driver, 68-year-old James Williams, was thrown from the moped. He died as a result of his injuries while being transported to the hospital.
The Kia driver, 38-year-old David Hicks, was not injured. He was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed, deputies said.
The highway patrol said impairment was not a contributing factor in the collision.
