Six York County Deputies Disciplined After Having Sex While On Duty

YORK COUNTY, SC — An anonymous tip about sexual conduct taking place between deputies while on duty has led to six being disciplined.

According to officials, Sheriff Kevin Tolson received a tip in late July that several deputies had been involved in improper conduct while on duty. An investigation revealed that six deputies had been engaging in sexual conduct, most of which took place before Sheriff Tolson took office in January 2017.

β€œThe results of this investigation are very troubling and cast a dark cloud over the York County Sheriff’s Office and its reputation as a professional organization,” said Sheriff Tolson. β€œThe actions of these officers have undermined the public’s confidence in our organization and required swift and serious action.”

One sergeant and one deputy were immediately fired as a result of the findings, while two more sergeants and a captain were suspended for two weeks without pay and one lieutenant was demoted to master deputy II.

β€œThe harshest discipline was dispensed to those who violated policy and public trust while I have been Sheriff,” said Sheriff Tolson. β€œI showed leniency to those Deputies whose conduct occurred years, even decades ago, but make no mistake this conduct will not be tolerated in this agency on my watch.”
