GASTONIA, N.C. β Gaston County has confirmed its second rabies case of 2025.
Around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement were called to Dumbarton Road in Gastonia after a familyβs two dogs killed a raccoon.
Specialists investigated the incident, and the raccoon was sent to Raleigh where it tested positive for rabies. Both family dogs were on rabies vaccination and received a booster shot shortly after the incident, police said.
Enforcement specialists completed a neighborhood canvass in the area of Dumbarton Road on Friday to notify the community of the positive rabies results and verify rabies vaccination for family pets in the area.
This is the second confirmed rabies case in Gaston County this year.
