CHARLOTTE, N.C. — South Carolina’s top prosecutor is suing the maker of Oxycotin in the latest effort to combat the opioid crisis.
On Tuesday, Attorney General Alan Wilson said that Purdue Pharma encourages doctors to prescribe pain pills for unapproved uses and downplays how addictive the company’s prescriptions are.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, South Carolina had the ninth highest opioid prescribing rates in the nation last year.
