Parents left terrified after two were severely injured in a shooting near a North Charlotte middle school

NORTH CHARLOTTE, NC – Shots were fired alarmingly close to a North Charlotte school Thursday according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Medic confirmed that two people were transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries.

In a statement CMPD confirmed the shooting incident occurred in the North Tryon Division just before 3 p.m. on Northchase Drive, outside of the Platform Lofts apartment complex. Northchase Dr leads directly to the bus lot of Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, but CMPD reassured that shooting did not happen on school property.

Through emails with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, WCCB confirmed that Martin Luther King Jr. Middle and Hidden Valley Elementary Schools were both placed on lockdown for more than 30 minutes. A district spokesperson said that parents were made aware of the lockdown, and that it did delay dismissal until law enforcement gave the all clear.

At the scene on Northchase Dr, investigators were observed searching through a blue Chevrolet truck. Several items, including what appeared to be clothing, laid next to the truck until CSI bagged up each of the items. Three small yellow markers were also seen on the ground near the truck’s driver side door. An officer eventually drove the truck away from the scene.

CMPD has not yet responded to an email asking who those two people were, or if they have been officially arrested.
