Hickory Police Warn Residents Of Jury Duty Phone Scam

HICKORY, NC — Police are warning residents to be aware of a phone scam involving claims of a failure to report for jury duty.

Officials say scammers impersonating law enforcement are calling citizens to inform them that they failed to appear for jury duty, have outstanding warrants, or other law enforcement related circumstances. They then direct the victim to send payment via Western Union, money cards, etc. to avoid penalty.

Hickory PD says they do not request money or payments from citizens over the phone.

Police say any one who receives this type of call from someone claiming to be with the “Hickory Police Department” or any other law enforcement agency should immediately notify proper authorities. Do not send funds, or release any information to the caller.
