PINEHURST, NC – A man with an ax has been shot and killed by officers from the Pinehurst Police Department.
Officers were called to a home on Remington Lane for a suspicious person around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
When they arrived, the officers noticed smoke coming from the home and called the fire department.
Investigators say while firefighters were working to put out the flames, a man with an ax walked out of the house, and then charged toward the firefighters and police.
The police department says officers, who believed the man to be an imminent threat, shot him.
Paramedics took the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No officers or firefighters were hurt.
The State Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
